July 1, 2011…The Wheels of Time Street Rod Association announces its 33rd Annual Rod & Custom Jamboree at Macungie Memorial Park on August 26th, 27th, and 28th. This show will be lots of fun with more features, activities, entertainment, and family fun for participants and spectators alike. Proceeds benefit more than two dozen charitable organizations and scholarship programs. Special features include our guests, “Miss Hurst, Linda Vaughn and 1989 NHRA Funny Car Champion, Bruce Larson. Bruce will be bringing his USA-1 Corvette Funny Car after over 20 years in storage plus Tommy Ivo’s Orange Dragster. Both will be on hand all three days to share their stories of the past and they got started in the field of automotive racing. Another special feature on Saturday, will be Viper and Mopar 1 Monster Trucks crushing cars and providing ride opportunities for those interested in a great time. Also featured, will be nostalgia race cars, special interest cars, and bicycles which are in a class of their own.
The Wheels of Time Rod & Custom Jamboree includes over 1,500 street rods and custom cars, 1969 or older, Each vehicle is an individual creation representing American innovation and creativity and is a unique expression of performance and style by its owner. Coveted Wheels of Time awards are given each year to 30 participant’s cars at the show. National Street Rod Association Vehicle Safety Inspections are also conducted free of charge during the show.
The street rod and custom car hobby is a unique part of American culture and draws millions of participants and spectators to events all across the country. The Wheels of Time Rod & Custom Jamboree is one of the largest all-volunteer events in the nation and each year approximately 15,000 spectators and participants attend the show. Over the past 20 years an average $60,000 is given each year to local charities and the Wheels of Time scholarship program for young adults. To date, over $1,200,000 has been donated to local community organizations, over 300 scholarships have been awarded, and hundreds of pints of blood have been given to the Miller-Keystone Blood Center. Wheels of Time members have also provided incalculable community support in cars for parades and events, volunteer hours, and support for those in need.
Other highlights include Valve Cover Racing, Our famous Teeter Totter, Bingo, Auction, Women’s World, and entertainment for the kids. The huge flea market and women’s crafts area has 300 vendors, plus a car corral with dozens of cars for sale. The beautiful Macungie Park offers many good food vendors, swimming pool, and playground for the kids.
This year many bands will play at the Wheels of Time Rod & Custom Jamboree throughout the 3 days. Friday’s entertainment include Ricky Smith and the Crush and the evening entertainment from 7:00 pm to 10:45 pm will Jay Allan, “The Ultimate Elvis” featuring cover songs and his Elvis tribute special. Saturday afternoon the band stage will include performances by The Speedkings, Tweed & The Sugar Daddies, Nate Myers & The Aces, and Delco Nightingale. Saturday evening band and dance entertainment from 7:00pm to 10:45 pm will be by “Flamin Dick and the Hot Rods.” Sunday afternoon will be “The Gritzz”.
Many other activities are going on though out the weekend thru the efforts of the Ladies Auxiliary. On Friday, they have planned a cake- walk, bingo, gift basket raffle, and other raffles. On Saturday and Sunday, planned is a Chinese or basket auction, bingo, crafts and guessing games. Sunday has an auction of merchandise to benefit Muscular Dystrophy Association at 10:30 AM. This popular event always brings unique items and all proceeds go to charity.
The show opens each day at 7:00 AM. Spectator gate admission is $8 (under 16 free). Bring a non-perishable food items and get $2 off the admission price. Food is donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank, with tons of food donated over the years.
